On our second day in Mayo, we took the morning to drive around the Lough Carra, seeing the many farms and homes on its shores. We came across Moore Hall, a historic location in Co. Mayo. We would learn significantly more about Moore Hall and its role in Mayo history in the afternoon when we visited the Co. Mayo Library in Castlebar. There, we examined old archived documents about the area and read through several years of newspaper articles written in the late 1970s when many group water schemes in Mayo were established. These records provide a lens into the histories of the area, and the concerns that have surrounded the lake and its water supplies for many decades.
