GSI 11.10.2018 http://waterschemes.ie/2018/11/23/gsi-11-10-2018/ Fri, 23 Nov 2018 12:46:32 +0000 http://waterschemes.ie/?p=1082 In October, we went to the GSI offices in Dublin to meet with members of the groundwater team. There we learned about the history of the GSI’s involvement in studying and mapping zones of contribution (ZOCs) for group water schemes with groundwater sources. We also had a basic introduction to karst features and karst landscapes and saw how the GSI is using GIS and geospatial tools to represent and analyze these features.

EPA 22.10.2018 http://waterschemes.ie/2018/11/21/epa-22-10-2018/ Wed, 21 Nov 2018 12:56:16 +0000 http://waterschemes.ie/?p=1089 In October, we visited EPA’s offices in Dublin to meet with members of the Catchment Team, the Groundwater Team, and the Drinking Water Team. In these interviews, we learned about the impact of EU and Irish legislation on the ways that the agency thinks about and helps to manage water resources–both for its ecological health and as a source of drinking water. In these histories, we learned about how and why ‘catchment’ thinking was introduced in Ireland and the what effects of the recast of the Drinking Water Directive will have.
